3rd Annual Special Olympics DanceSport Development Competition. Sponsored by the City of Melville
Para and Ability Dance WA will host the 3rd Annual Special Olympics DanceSport Development Competition, sponsored by the City of Melville, on 2 June 2024 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Shirley Strictland Pavilion, 100 Coogee Road, Ardross.
The Special Olympics DanceSport Development Competition will be held under the Special Olympics International DanceSport Rules. Each dancer will be on the dance floor with their partner/ coach one at a time for a dance and music of the student’s choice.
We want to encourage dancers living with disabilities to participate in the competitions in preparation for future pathways to Special Olympics DanceSport local, state, national, and international competitions.
The cost for competitors is $25 (which is paid to the Special Olympics on entry), and spectators are free.
Special Olympics Sport Training Programs are for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism. They are focused on the skill development of each athlete, ensuring they are ready to compete at Special Olympics’ local, state, and national competitions. The program is delivered by qualified coaches, with support from our dedicated volunteers.
Special Olympics Sessions include:
- Skill-development workout drills, activities, and assessments
- Individual goal setting for athletes
- Practice competition opportunities
- Performance feedback and support
Who can get involved?
- Registered Special Olympics athlete members and approved affiliate members
- Athletes who want to improve their skills to compete in upcoming local, state, and national competitions.
- Athletes comfortable in a group setting, where support is provided at a 1 staff to 5 athlete ratios.
